st edition of the FILM MUSIC COMPOSITION and CONDUCTING MASTERCLASS. This course is aimed to composers who are interested in learning how to conduct their recording sessions and want to develop a basic understanding of conducting techniques. In addition, they will be tutored in composition by George Fenton, internationally acclaimed British composer with 5 Oscar nominations and multiple Ivor Novello, BAFTA, Golden Globe, Emmy and BMI awards, and Dimitri Scarlato, the Area Leader in Composition for Screen at the Royal College of Music in London. During the intensive week you will compose and record a cue (or cues) for a clip given by the tutor or of your choice.

The conducting pieces will be announced at the end of May, and will comprise of 2 short extract from the classical repertoire and 2 short extract from film music. The composers are invited to look all the pieces, but they should prepare only 1 piece.

Master Class information:

The masterclass is open to composers and practitioners in film music of any age and experience.

The participants will receive daily tuition in composition and conducting.

George Fenton and Dimitri Scarlato will lead the composition masterclass. During the sessions, examples from George Fenton, other composers and the participants will be discussed. At the same time, you will work towards the scoring of a clip, which will be recorded with live instruments at the end of the masterclass.

Dimitri Scarlato will lead the conducting session, which will start from analysing basic conducting techniques useful during a recording session, to work on music from the classic and cinematic repertoire. The participants will have the opportunity to practice their conducting with live players (string quintet, small ensemble) and to record the music composed during the masterclass. George Fenton will also offer guidance during the recording session.

The fee for active participants is €800, for auditor is €200. A deposit of €150 must be paid by the active participants to secure their place.

The participants are advised to bring their own DAW (Logic, Cubase etc.).
